WELCOME TO THE MEDIA LIBRARY/REVIEWS

Time for some unsolicited opinions!

Here is a collection of some of my favorite (and least favorite) pieces of media. Video games, movies, books, and even albums! All are fair game, as long as I own it.

VIDEO GAMES

Ghost Master

Title: Ghost Master

Genre: Management Puzzle

Review: A madcap spook-'em-up where you jump from level to level to scare the pants off everyone in the town of Gravenville. Amass an army of personality rich ghosts, using their unique abilities to scare mortals, defeat meddling mediums, and free the Darkling. The base game is very buggy and clearly unfinished, so I'd reccomend picking up the Compplete Edition mod which also adds some cut haunters. A diamond in the rough, this game is full of spirit and charm and I recommend playing if you have a chance.

Return of the Obra Dinn

Title: Return of the Obra Dinn

Genre: Detective Puzzle

Review: One of the best games I have ever played. You are an insurance agent investigating a lost ship that recently arrived back in port. You're given a journal, a few drawings, a directory of the crew and passengers, and a magic pocket watch that allows you to see the last moments of a person's life. With these things you must piece together what really happened on the Obra Dinn. The presentation is rough but beautifully effective. The music is immaculate. The deductions are enjoyable, if occaisionally really obscure. I want nothing more than to purge my memories of this game just so I can play it for the first time again. Play it. Now.

Civilization V

Title: Civlization V

Genre: 4X Grand Strategy

Review: A classic in the strategy genre and probably my favorite Civ game. A lot of the previous games suffer from being a bit too obtuse while the more modern ones have problems related to DLC and design, but Civ V hits that sweet spot for me. Pick your Civilization, pick your map, press start, and suddenly it's 6 hours later and you wasted an entire afternoon building graineries. The artstyle is a little rough, but I think it holds well enough, and a couple big things are locked behind DLC, but overall this is the definitive Civ package for me.
